The number sequence is as follows: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>first two digits<\/strong> \u2192 class or chapter \u2192 identify the industry sector or activity that generated the waste, i.e., the <strong>production sector<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>second two digits<\/strong> \u2192 subclass or subchapter \u2192 specify the production process within that given sector, i.e., indicate the <strong>detailed process or processing that generated the scrap<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>last two digits<\/strong> \u2192 category \u2192 tell the exact nature of the waste, allowing identification of the <strong>specific type of waste.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The possible presence of an asterisk after the six digits indicates that the waste is classified as hazardous (ex: <a href=\"http:\/\/xx.xx.xx\">xx.xx.xx*<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Operational steps for EER code assignment.<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As indicated by <strong>environmental regulations in order to classify a waste<\/strong> without error, the producer of the <strong>waste<\/strong>, must necessarily follow a specific order:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Identification of waste source activity<\/strong> \u2192 the producer should consult chapters 01 12 or 17 to 20 to identify the activity that generated the material. If the source is clearly identifiable, the code should be chosen from within these chapters. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Process and description analysis <\/strong>\u2192 once the chapter is identified, move on to the subclasses. It is essential to choose the description that best represents the physical state and composition of the material. If there is no specific entry in Chapters 01 to 12 or 17 to 20, Chapters 13,14 and 15 should be consulted.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Use of code &#8220;99&#8221; (wastes not otherwise specified)<\/strong> \u2192 if no description is adequate, codes ending with the digits 99 may be used; this choice must be residual and adequately justified technically.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"sg-ai-highlighted-block wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>The problem of &#8220;Mirror Codes&#8221; and Chemical Analysis.<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are<strong> two types of codes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mirror codes<\/strong> \u2192 these are items that describe the same type of waste, but with two variants, <strong>hazardous or non-hazardous<\/strong>. In this case, the producer, cannot arbitrarily choose which code to assign, it is necessary to proceed to the characterization of the waste by laboratory analysis to check whether the concentrations of hazardous substances (H1 &#8211; H15) are exceeded, according to the European regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Absolute codes<\/strong> \u2192 are always <strong>hazardous <\/strong>(marked with an asterisk, e.g., 11 01 11*) or <strong>non-hazardous<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Consequences of misclassification.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An error in assigning the EER code, formerly the ERC code, can result in:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Environmental damage<\/strong> \u2192 environmental contamination capable of affecting flora and fauna.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>homeland security risks<\/strong> \u2192 hazardous waste handled as nonhazardous puts operators at risk;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>logistic blockage<\/strong> \u2192 the transporter or destination facility may reject the cargo;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Criminal and administrative penalties<\/strong> \u2192 particularly in cases of improper declassification;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SOLUTION: DARSA LTD!
